How should you Review the Lease with a Tenant?

drafting tenancy agreement

You have an amazing rental property being advertised, you go through the applications, find a great tenant, and sit down to go over the lease agreement. Stop. Are you ready to go over the lease agreement? It is important to make sure your tenant understands all of the finer details of the agreement. In order to do that, you need to make sure you know how to review the agreement in the right way.

Picking the Right Spot

You need to go somewhere that you can sit down and review the agreement without a lot of noise or chaos in the background. It is extremely common to meet at the actual rental property to go over the lease.

Give More than Enough Time

You do not want to rush your tenant. You need to give them time to ask any and all questions about the agreement. Just try not to put a clock on the meeting and assume it could take a few hours.

Dress to Impress

You want your tenant to feel safe signing the agreement and leasing with you. This means you need to dress like a professional. If you dress like a slob, your tenant could decide to back out of the deal at the last minute

Triple Check Everything

Go through the agreement a few times and make sure everything sounds right. You should also make sure you have all of the paperwork you need a couple of times. The last thing you want to do is show up and make it feel like you’ve never read the paperwork before or accidentally forget some pages of the lease.

As long as you keep these tips in mind, there is no reason why you should not come out on top with a new tenant happy and a property rented with the lease signed.
